Dachshund Day, 2003

That's Spencer on the right, his birthmom, Zelda on the left, and his adoption mom April in the middle.

We had only one event to attend in the month of June, but considering the distance, one was plenty. We attended Dachshund Day in Great Falls, Montana, on June 14… some 2000 miles away. And believe it or not, we won second place in the Farthest Traveled category. The winner was from Florida.

Dachshund Day is not only a day to enjoy and celebrate dachshunds, it is also a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event is organized by Becky and Bill Burguess of 2 Dogs Long Dachshunds. Our Spencer and Katie, Dieter (belonging to staff member Shirley McFall), and Clancy (the newest addition to our extended family, belonging to our webmaster) all came from 2 Dogs Long. So with four dogs from them, of course we had to attend.

Becky and Bill got to see Spencer for the first time since he left there at 9 weeks old, and Spencer got to see his birthmom, Zelda.

There were plenty of contests, raffles and giveaways, and food (hot dogs!). By the end of the day there were a number of happy new Hug-A-Dog Harness owners, including Zelda.

Dachshund Day raised over $1000 for the Cancer Society. A tail-wagging salute to the Burguesses and to all the volunteers and donors who helped make the day possible.
